Robert Ames is a professional violist who plays an instrument made in Yann Besson's lutherie workshop in France.
Robert Ames was born in 1985. He graduated from the Royal Academy of Music where he studied viola with Martin Outram . A pioneer of new music, Robert Ames has worked closely with several of today's leading composers, including:

- Sir Harrison Birtwistle

- Mark-Anthony Turnage
Robert Ames regularly participates in music programs broadcast by the BBC.

Robert Ames is the artistic director of the London Contemporary Orchestra. The orchestra was recently nominated for the Royal Philharmonic Society's "Public Development Award".
