Richard Waters

Chamber musician, soloist and orchestral musician

Equally at home as a chamber musician, soloist, or orchestral player, Richard has performed on stages all over the world. A recent graduate of the  Royal Academy of Music where he studied under Paul Silverthorne, he obtained his Master's degree with honors and the DipRAM honorary degree. He was fortunate to receive financial support from the Ian Alexander Scholarship, the Leverhulme Foundation, and the  Munster Trust  and  MBF during his studies. Previously, he studied at the  Guildhall School of Music and Drama  with Mark Knight, where he received a concert recital diploma in addition to his university degree.

Richard, a passionate advocate of contemporary music, has collaborated with many renowned composers, including John Adams and George Benjamin, whose virtuosic work *Viola, Viola* he has performed on numerous occasions, notably at the Purcell Room in the Southbank Centre. Over the past year, he has recorded for the Naxos and NMC labels. He has recently performed at Wigmore Hall, Kings Place, and the West Cork Chamber Music Festival, and will soon be giving concerts in various venues across the UK.

The Bernadel Quartet

As a founding member of the Bernadel Quartet, he leads a rich and varied musical life, punctuated by recitals, outreach activities, and mentoring young chamber music ensembles within organizations such as  Pro Corda The quartet is fortunate to be accompanied by the Belcea Quartet, with whom they will perform Mendelssohn's Octet in March 2014.

In the orchestral world, Richard has been a soloist with the London Sinfonietta, notably participating in critically acclaimed performances of Georg Friedrich Haas's "In Vain," as well as concerts with Opera North and the St. Endellion Festival Orchestra. He is currently on trial as an associate soloist with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, second soloist with Opera North and the Hallé Orchestra. In 2012–2013, he was selected for the prestigious London Symphony Orchestra String Training Programme and received the programme's prize for most promising participant.
